On the morning of April 16, Professor Stephen McArthur, Principal of the University of Strathclyde, and Associate Principal Campbell Booth visited Dalian Maritime University (DMU). President Shan Hongjun met with the delegation for a discussion.

President Shan Hongjun extended a warm welcome to Principal Stephen McArthur and his delegation, providing a brief overview of DMU’s distinctive features, academic research, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. Shan noted that since the establishment of their partnership in 2013, the two universities have achieved significant results in joint student programs and academic exchanges. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as a new starting point for both parties to further focus on frontier maritime engineering. By deepening collaborative innovation in research, joint training of high-calibre maritime professionals, and faculty-student exchange programs, both institutions aim to broaden the scope and elevate the level of their cooperation, jointly contributing to innovation in global maritime education and the high-quality development of the shipping industry.

Stephen McArthur expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality received and spoke highly of the long-standing and productive partnership between the two universities. He noted that the University of Strathclyde possesses strong expertise in engineering, which aligns closely with the distinctive academic focus of DMU, offering vast prospects for future collaboration. He hoped to further strengthening pragmatic cooperation by deepening faculty-student exchanges, joint research, and resource sharing. By promoting the deep integration of talent cultivation and scientific research, he hoped both sides would work together to achieve a higher level of collaborative development.

Representatives from the Academic Affairs Office, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the Marine Engineering College, the Information Science and Technology College, the Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering College, and the Houston International Institute also attended the meeting.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured several of the University’s teaching and research facilities, including the Maritime Education Museum, the New Library, the National Engineering Research Center of Maritime Navigation System, and the Collaborative Innovation Institute of Unmanned Ships.
