Empowering Efficient Navigation with Stable Control | The Intelligent Navigation Equipment Co-developed by Our University Successfully Delivered for Real-ship Application

Recently, the NAV800A intelligent navigation equipment for ships, jointly developed by the universitys State Key Laboratory of Maritime Technology and Safety and Botyacht (Shenzhen) Marine Technology Co., Ltd., was formally delivered to CSSC Dalian Shipbuilding Industrial Development Co., Ltd. Professor Zhang Guoqing’s team provided core algorithm support and R&D guidance in areas such as intelligent navigation control algorithms, simulation verification platform development, and equipment module design. The project achieved full-stack independent R&D of the hardware and software systems as well as industrial and structural design, breaking the long-standing reliance on foreign technology in this field.



The NAV800A intelligent navigation equipment features compatibility with ships of all voyage types, all categories, and all scenarios. It can significantly enhance the level of intelligent navigation, operational safety, and adaptability to complex environments. During a seven-day full-voyage application verification, the ship equipped with NAV800A achieved an 8% reduction in fuel consumption compared to a similar vessel without the equipment under the same conditions of load capacity, voyage distance, route, and sea state, demonstrating remarkable cost-saving and efficiency-enhancing effects. Currently, the equipment has obtained the first domestic Approval in Principle (AiP) issued by China Classification Society in the field of intelligent navigation equipment, marking that its technical solution has met industry authoritative standards in terms of safety, reliability, and compliance.

The successful development, mass production, and application of the NAV800A represent another landmark achievement of our university in deepening industry-academia-research-application collaborative innovation and transforming scientific and technological achievements into practical productivity. Against the backdrop of the global shipping industrys accelerated transformation toward intelligence and green development, the university has consistently aligned itself with the strategic needs of building a strong transportation nation and a strong maritime nation, focusing on the frontiers of intelligent navigation and deepening the integration of industry, academia, research, and application. It has formed a complete innovation chain spanning technological breakthroughs, prototype development, real-ship verification, and mass production, leaving a distinctive DMU Mark in the blue ocean through concrete actions.
