On the morning of March 30, 2026, the Qingdao International Shipping Week 2026 opened, and the Dalian Maritime University Qingdao Institute was officially inaugurated.

Vice President Zhao Baogang of Dalian Maritime University (DMU) and General Manager Chen Jiangguang of Shandong Marine Group jointly inaugurated the Dalian Maritime University Qingdao Institute.

Sun Yuqing, former Party Secretary and President of DMU, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. He stated that the Dalian Maritime University Qingdao Institute represents a close integration of local government’s investment in materials and human resources, serving as a strategic fulcrum for the integration of university and local resources, as well as an innovative carrier for the integrated development of shipping education, science and technology, and talents. Focusing on Qingdao’s talent needs, the institute has specifically positioned itself as a high-end shipping talent training base, and will fully extend DMU’s innovative models in talent cultivation to Qingdao and serve the city. At the Expert Symposium on the High-Quality Development of Qingdao International Shipping Center, Sun Yuqing introduced the progress of comprehensive evaluations of shipping center cities by domestic and foreign think tanks, and shared the development path of Qingdao Shipping Center from the aspects of focusing on high-end shipping services, strengthening maritime scientific and technological innovation, and deepening green and intelligent transformation.
The Qingdao Institute is an unincorporated entity-type scientific research institution established by Dalian Maritime University, aiming to build a core engine serving the high-quality development of port, shipping, logistics and marine economy. Upholding the tenet of “Based in Qingdao, Oriented to Shandong, Radiating the Surrounding Areas, and Strengthening the Nation through Ocean Endeavors”, the institute closely aligns with national strategies and regional development needs, and focuses on constructing four major functional platforms: a full-chain maritime science and technology innovation center, a highland for international maritime rule-making, a high-end shipping talent training base, and a platform for alumni wisdom pooling and industry-education integration.
This inauguration marks a crucial step forward in the integration of industry and education, as well as the integration of science and education, between DMU and Qingdao, and will inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the regional shipping economy.
