Chairman of University Council Zheng Shaonan Was Invited to Attend BIMCO Shanghai Conference 2019

On February 28th, BIMCO Shanghai Conference 2019 was held in Shanghai. Zheng Shaonan, Chairman of University Council, was invited to lead the delegation to attend the reference.



As an annual international shipping event, the conference attracted more than 300 professors from worldwide shipping companies, universities, classification society, finance and insurance institutions. The conference focused on the latest maritime arbitration and environment challenges for shipping industry, challenges in the face of trade war and 2020 sulfur-containing fuel restrictions. In addition, internationally renowned functional organizations for shipping services, global leading-edge shipping companies and influential Think Tank experts were invited to deliver the keynote speeches.

As a member of BIMCO, DMU friendly communicated with the participants on topics such as the development of global shipping industry and the role the higher maritime education played in the shipping industry. It provides a valuable chance to be up to speed on the development of the international shipping industry and a good platform for DMU to further scientific research, enhance foreign exchanges and improve services.

Fu Xianping, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and Li Zhaokun, Dean of Shipping Development Research Institute, also attended the conference.

It is reported that BIMCO is the world’s largest shipping organization with a history of more than 100 years and is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has over 2,300 members in 130 countries, representing two-thirds of the world’s merchant fleet. In 2013, BIMCO settled in Shanghai as the regional headquarter of Asia, providing direct services to Chinese members and shipping companies.
