
On the morning of July 16, a delegation led by Ajith Peiris, President of the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College of Sri Lanka (CINEC), visited Dalian Maritime University (DMU). Shan Hongjun, President of DMU, met with the delegation and held talks with them.

On behalf of DMU, Shan Hongjun extended a warm welcome to Ajith Peiris and his delegation. He stated that the maritime education cooperation between the two sides has lasted for 20 years since the establishment of an overseas campus of DMU at CINEC in 2007. Positive outcomes have been achieved in the cultivation of regional shipping talents, cultural exchanges, scientific and technological cooperation and other fields, and the cooperation projects between both sides have become a successful model for international cooperation in nautical education. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope that both sides would continue to rely on the overseas campus program, give full play to the distinctive strengths of each side, deepen cooperation contents, expand cooperation fields and elevate cooperation levels, and jointly contribute to the innovation of global maritime education and the high-quality development of the shipping industry.

Ajith Peiris expressed gratitude for the warm reception of DMU. He said that the two institutions have delved deep into joint cultivation of maritime talents over the past two decades and yielded fruitful cooperation results. The CINEC has always regarded DMU as a vital strategic partner. The Sri Lankan side will fully cooperate with DMU to ensure the stable operation and continuous quality improvement of existing projects. He voiced the hope that both sides would strengthen scientific research cooperation in the future. The Sri Lankan side will send professional teachers to conduct practical training and exchanges on platforms including the intelligent research and training vessel Xinhongzhuan of DMU, so as to boost their capacity for teaching and research. Meanwhile, both sides will actively explore the launch of new cooperative majors related to port management, to better meet the demands of local port construction and the development of shipping industry of Sri Lanka.

Relevant officials in charge of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the International Student Education Center of DMU attended the meeting.
During the visit, Ajith Peiris and his delegation paid a visit to the intelligent research and training vessel Xinhongzhuan of DMU, and conducted in-depth exchanges with the staff of the International Student Education Center of DMU on matters including project operation and quality management.
