Prosper Mgaya Rector of Tanzania National Institute of Transport and His Delegation Visit DMU

On the afternoon of October 22, Prosper Mgaya, Rector of the Tanzania National Institute of Transport, led a delegation to visit Dalian Maritime University (DMU). President Shan Hongjun met with the delegation.

On behalf of DMU, Shan Hongjun extended a warm welcome to Prosper Mgaya and his delegation. He emphasized that the university has a long-standing cooperation with Tanzania in the fields of transportation and maritime education, and has maintained close collaboration with relevant Tanzanian institutions in talent cultivation, academic exchanges, faculty visits and other aspects, achieving positive results. He expressed the expectation that taking this exchange as an opportunity, both parties will reach cooperation consensus and establish cooperation mechanisms in maritime education, scientific research, academic exchanges and other areas, and make positive contributions to the high-quality development of the shipping industry in China and Tanzania through high-quality cooperation outcomes in the future.


Prosper Mgaya expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and gave an overview of the National Institute of Transport of Tanzania, including its institutional positioning, academic strengths, and future development plans.


He expressed the hope that the two universities would further enhance mutual understanding and deepen cooperation through substantive collaboration in areas such as joint laboratory applications, faculty scholarship programs, and exchange and training initiatives for the faculties and students.


The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including the research focus of the proposed joint laboratory and the customized training of maritime professionals in Tanzania. Both parties expressed their intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on inter-university cooperation in the near future. Officials from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Integrated Transportation attended the meeting.

During the visit, Prosper Mgaya and his delegation toured the Collaborative Innovation Center for Integrated Transportation, the Institute for Dalian Northeast Asia International Shipping Center, the Maritime Education Museum, and the new university library. The visit deepened their understanding of DMU and laid a solid foundation for further exchanges and cooperation between the two institutions.


The National Institute of Transport (NIT) of Tanzania, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport of Tanzania, is a higher education institution dedicated to education and research in the field of transportation. NIT is committed to cultivating professionals in transportation, logistics management, and engineering technology. The institute comprises five schools: the School of Aviation, the School of Maritime and Petroleum Technology, the School of Transport Engineering and Technology, the School of Logistics and Business Studies, and the School of Informatics and Technical Studies. Currently, NIT has more than 16,000 students and offers programs leading to two master’s degrees, 18 bachelor’s degrees, and 23 ordinary diplomas, as well as a range of short-term courses covering all modes of transport, including air, rail, road, water, and pipeline transport.
