
On the afternoon of October 22, David Loosley, Secretary General and CEO of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), along with Zhuang Wei, BIMCO’s Head of Asia Pacific, visited Dalian Maritime University (DMU). President Shan Hongjun met with the delegation.
On behalf of the university, President Shan Hongjun extended a warm welcome to David Loosley and his delegation, providing a brief overview of the university’s history, distinctive features, talent cultivation, and international exchanges. He noted that as a globally renowned international shipping organization, BIMCO plays a vital role in the global shipping industry’s green transition. In light of the challenges and opportunities brought by industry transformation, he expressed hope that both parties would further deepen cooperation in areas such as smart shipping talent cultivation, technological innovation, and industry standard formulation, contributing practical insights and solutions to the high-quality development of the shipping sector.
David Loosley expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and highly commended the university’s significant contributions to cultivating high-quality shipping professionals. He stated that in the face of the unprecedented changes driven by green energy and digital-intelligent transformation in the shipping industry, he hopes to take this visit as an opportunity to promote cooperation with our university in joint research and talent exchange, and jointly address the new trends of green, low-carbon, and intelligent shipping development, injecting fresh momentum into the sustainable development of the global shipping sector.
Relevant responsible officials from the University Party and Administration Office, Office of Scientific Research, Academic Affairs Office, and International Cooperation and Exchange Office attended the meeting.
During their visit, David Loosley and his delegation toured the university’s Navigation Education Museum and the library.
The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), founded in 1905 and headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, is the world’s largest and most diverse international shipping association, with over 2,100 members from more than 130 countries and regions worldwide.
As an influential non-governmental organization in the international shipping industry, BIMCO maintains close cooperation with multiple maritime organizations and holds observer status in several United Nations system bodies, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). It continuously promotes dialogue and cooperation in the global shipping sector. The standard contracts and clauses formulated by BIMCO are widely adopted and used worldwide, exerting a profound impact on the evolution of international shipping rules and the development of the industry.
