
On the morning of September 8, Paul Boyle, Vice Chancellor of Swansea University, visited Dalian Maritime University. President Shan Hongjun met with the delegation.
After extending a warm welcome to Paul Boyle and his delegation on behalf of the university, Shan Hongjun briefed on the institution’s distinctive educational features, talent cultivation, and international exchanges. He reviewed the fruitful outcomes achieved by the two institutions over more than two decades of collaboration and the profound friendship that had been established. He noted that the jointly launched undergraduate program in law stood as a significant milestone in deepening their academic and educational cooperation. Looking forward, he stated that Dalian Maritime University is ready to further deepen its cooperation with Swansea University, expand joint educational programs, strengthen academic and research exchanges, and build a flagship brand in China–UK higher education collaboration.
Paul Boyle expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received at the university and praised the outstanding teaching quality and excellent career prospects of the joint law program between the two institutions. He noted that the universities share many common strengths in distinctive academic features and multidisciplinary development, and expressed his hope that the joint program will serve as a bridge for expanding interdisciplinary and multi-field cooperation. He further emphasized the goal of continuously advancing collaboration between the two sides to higher levels, deeper engagement, and broader fields.
In the afternoon, Paul Boyle and his delegation visited the military training site of the 2025 cohort of freshmen in the Joint Double Degree Programme. He extended a warm welcome and expressed high expectations for the students, while engaging in friendly exchanges.
The delegation later joined a meeting with faculty and students of the 2024 cohort of the Joint Double Degree Programme, where Professor Boyle and Professor Shan Hongjun presented scholarship certificates to outstanding students.
The visit also included tours of the Maritime Education Museum and the university library.
Representatives from DMU’s International Cooperation and Exchange Office, School of Law, and Houston International Institute took part in the meetings and activities.
