On the afternoon of April 6, a delegation led by Chen Xiaolin, President of DMU New Zealand Alumni Association, returned to their alma mater for a visit. The delegation included Executive President Wang Bin, Vice President Gu Jianwen, and Deputy Secretary-General Guo Ming. They were warmly received by Xu Minqiang, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Yang Xinyu, Director of the Alumni Affairs and Cooperation Office and Secretary-General of the DMU Alumni Association, followed by a discussion session.

Secretary Xu Minqiang extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation and congratulated the official establishment of the New Zealand Alumni Association. He emphasized that alumni are an integral part of Dalian Maritime University and that alumni culture holds a significant place in the university’s heritage. He stated that DMU will continue to improve its alumni service system and fully support the career development of alumni worldwide. Currently, the university is accelerating its efforts to build a research-oriented world-class maritime university. Xu expressed hope that the New Zealand Alumni Association would serve as a spiritual harbor for local alumni, a mutual assistance platform, and a bridge connecting alumni with their alma mater, leveraging its unique role as an overseas alumni association to support the university’s internationalization initiatives. He also invited alumni to stay engaged with DMU’s development and “return home” frequently.

Chen Xiaolin shared his excitement about revisiting the alma mater and conveyed greetings from New Zealand alumni. He introduced the association’s establishment process, current status, and efforts to serve local alumni. Chen noted that overseas alumni are both witnesses and beneficiaries of China’s national prosperity and DMU’s growth. He pledged that New Zealand alumni would remain committed to supporting the university’s advancement and contributing to its goal of becoming a world-class maritime institution.
During the meeting, Wang Bin and other alumni representatives provided updates on advancing collaboration between DMU and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) in New Zealand. Key initiatives include faculty exchanges, cooperation on seafarer certification training, and exchange visits of training ships. They vowed to actively promote these projects to deepen bilateral ties.
The discussion was also attended by relevant officials from the university’s Party and Administration Office.
