On December 21, a promotion meeting of IMO internship program was successfully held. Prof. Zhao Youtao, Vice President of DMU, Mr. Michael Guy, Director of Legal Affairs and External Relations Department of IMO, and Mr. Li Tao, the first secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended the meeting online.

First of all, Prof. Zhao Youtao expressed gratitude to IMO and Chinese Embassy in the UK for their support to this program. He said this was the first time that DMU sent students to an inter-governmental organization for internship. The program can not only benefits the students participated, but also plays an important role in cultivating high-level maritime talents. In the future, DMU will continue to select qualified students for internship in IMO.

Next, Mr. Michael spoke highly of DMU students who joined the internship this year. He said that the students actively participated in IMO meetings and other related activities and performed well. Next year will an important year for IMO because there will be many important meetings and many related activities will be arranged. Students from DMU are welcomed to London again for the internship. He expect DMU students to involve these activities.

Prof. Ma Mingfei, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office of DMU, proposed to send young teachers to IMO for the short-term academic exchange. The relevant details will be discussed later.

Lastly, Mr. Li Tao said it’s a pleasure to promote the IMO internship program, which is a valuable program for the university. He hoped that DMU could cultivate more outstanding talents with international version based on its maritime characteristics.

During the meeting, the three parties also discussed the details of the IMO internship program in 2023 and reached an agreement on the next working plan.
