2026-06-08

On the morning of June 4, a delegation led by Tumaini Gurumo, Principal of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI), visited our university. President Shan Hongjun met with the delegation and the two sides held a discussion to exchange views.

President Shan Hongjun extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Tumaini Gurumo and introduced the university’s recent achievements in talent cultivation, discipline construction, and the education of Tanzanian international students. He noted that as an outstanding alumna of our universitys law program, Principal Gurumo has long been actively promoting cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in faculty exchanges and talent cultivation. Shan emphasized that our university has maintained close ties with DMI in fields such as undergraduate education and faculty-student exchanges. He expressed hope that both sides would take the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, joint scientific research, and the co-construction of courses and standards, thereby boosting the high-quality development of maritime education for both institutions.

Tumaini Gurumo expressed her gratitude for the universitys warm reception and fondly reminisced about her time studying here. She then introduced the operational status of DMI, touching upon aspects such as student enrollment, program offerings, and faculty strength. Gurumo stated that DMI highly values its cooperation with our university and treasures the deep, long-standing friendship between the two sides. She expressed her hope that this visit and the signing of the agreement would serve as a new starting point, allowing both institutions to leverage their respective educational resources to implement more high-quality collaborative projects.

Following the discussion, the two institutions signed the MoU. Under the MoU, the two universities will engage in deep, practical cooperation focusing on fields such as faculty-student exchanges, joint scientific research, and the co-construction of courses.

Officials from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the International Students Education Center, and the Northeast Asia Maritime and Shipping Research Institute also attended the meeting.
