On Oct. 27, Heike Deggim, the director of IMO Maritime Safety Division, attended the 2^nd Dalian Maritime University International Conference on Maritime Education and Training (DMUMET). During the conference, she delivered a keynote speech, introducing IMO’s regulations on smart ship technology and the influence of international maritime rules on maritime education and training.

After the speech, Heike Deggim received an interview from DMU’s media. She said that the smart ship technology is developing rapidly, so maritime institutions, even the whole maritime industry, should adapt themselves to the new technology, change the traditional ways of education and training, and train more maritime talents who can keep the trend of the time. 

In addition, Heike Deggim visited the training vessel “Yu Kun”, during which she communicated with the staff on the ship, spoke highly of DMU’s active practice in the era of new technology and showed great expectations of DMU’s prosperity in the future.

Li Guanyu, the Director of International Organization Office, International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Transport, accompanied Heike Deggim during the visit.
