Seminar on Development Strategies in Navigation and Maritime Fields Held at Dalian Maritime University

On November 24th, the Seminar on Development Strategies in Navigation and Maritime Fields was held at DMU. Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, He You, from Naval Aviation University, Wang Qidong, Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shan Hongjun, President of Dalian Maritime University, Sun Yuqing, former Party Secretary and President of Dalian Maritime University, as well as over 40 experts and scholars from enterprises, universities, and research institutions in the field of navigation and maritime affairs attended the seminar. The seminar was hosted by Liu Junpeng, Project Director of the Marine Engineering Discipline of the Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences.

On behalf of the university, Shan Hongjun welcomed all the experts and scholars present and thanked the National Natural Science Foundation of China for its long-term guidance and support in the university's scientific research. He stressed that accelerating the development of building China into a country with marine and shipping strength, and promoting self-reliance in navigation and maritime technology, are crucial tasks for everyone in this field. Facing new challenges and opportunities, DMU will continue to leverage its strengths in marine research and education to strengthen communication and cooperation with research institutions, universities, and industry enterprises, promoting technological innovation and high-quality development in navigation and maritime fields.

Wang Qidong introduced the research management of the Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences, focusing on talent, frontline career, and hard work. He emphasized the importance of the marine engineering discipline for national strength and encouraged collaboration between all entities present in the seminar to achieve greater success in key technologies, talent development and beyond.

He You highlighted the new challenges and opportunities facing China's navigation and maritime technology currently. He hoped experts would explore innovative paths for these disciplines under emerging technology clusters, and contribute their wisdom to building a modern, intelligent, and green technological system.

Wang Yu, from the Technological Innovation Base of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, gave the keynote speech, and shared the group's rich experience and achievements in technological innovation, the establishment of shipping joint funds, and the main issues they face in navigation and maritime affairs. He also offered insights into future industry trends.

Gong Yongjun, from the Office of Science and Technology of Dalian Maritime University, reported on the research of development strategies in navigation and maritime affairs, covering national strategic needs, field connotation, development direction, current status, and future measures and other topics.

Sun Yuqing chaired the discussion session, where over 40 experts and scholars from leading enterprises like China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited and Shandong Port Group Co.,Ltd., and more than 20 maritime universities and research institutions, discussed innovations in digital intelligence, green and low-carbon technologies, and safety and resilience in navigation and maritime affairs.
