The IAMU 2023 Student Forum took place from July 11th to 13th at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London. Forty-five student representatives from maritime universities in 34 countries and regions, including DMU student Yang Kaisen, attended the forum.

This forum aims to provide opportunities for the next generation of maritime industry leaders to communicate and collaborate with world-leading maritime researchers, educators, and experts, as well as students from around the world. This year’s event was connected with the topic of this year’s World Maritime Day – “MARPOL at 50 – our commitment goes on.”

During the forum, Yang Kaisen and the team members exchanged their views and opinions on green shipping. They analyzed the application of alternative fuel and new technologies in shipping, and discussed the role of artificial intelligence, big data, sensor technology, etc. in promoting green shipping and low-carbon shipping industry. Yang Kaisen made an oral report at the closing ceremony.

This experience has really helped broaden my perspective and better understand the importance of cross-cultural communication and diversified cooperation,” Yang Kaisen said. “It has been a great opportunity for me to get to know the maritime education and training in different countries, and it has made me more determined to get involved in the maritime sector and contribute to the development of China’s shipping industry.
