On Oct. 31, a delegation headed by Sonia Roca, the Chancellor of the Pacific University of Ecuador, visited DMU. 

DMU President Sun Yuqing extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and briefly introduced DMU. He said that there are many common disciplines in these two universities, so he hoped to expand and deepen the cooperation.

Sonia Roca expressed sincere thanks for the warm reception. She said that she was honored to visit Dalian Maritime University, which enjoys international reputation. She then introduced Pacific University of Ecuador, which was founded in 1997. It’s now the only university which has set up maritime disciplines in Central America. It has two campus, in Guayaquil (a costal city, also the largest city in Ecuador) and Quito (the capital) respectively. Based on beautiful ocean environment, and abundant oil and mineral resources, the university has great prospects. She hoped that through this visit, the two universities can strengthen the educational cooperation and exchanges.

The two presidents have also conducted a preliminary discussion on the cooperation areas and directions.

After the meeting, President Sun, on behalf of DMU, signed an MoU with Pacific University of Ecuador. The two universities will carry out the cooperation on teachers & students exchanges and training, curriculum, teaching facilities and teaching methods to promote the academic relationship between China and Latin America.

Prof. Fu Xianping, the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office of DMU, also attended the meeting.
