International Joint Programs and Joint Projects
In order to promote its international reputation and develop global businesss relationships, the University is developing a number of innovative and outstanding professional programs and projects. Expanding the number of international exchange with both academic institutions and overseas industries is an example of this initiative.
At present, the University is conducting joint academic programs and joint research projects with various foreign academic and economic entities. The following two are the examples:
◇ The Master of Science Program on Maritime Safety and Environmental Management (MSc on MSEM Program)
This program is organized by World Maritime University and Dalian Maritime University. The goal of this program is to meet the need for high-level professionals capable of handling increasingly complex and important issues of maritime safety and marine environment protection in the context of ever-increasing production. To understand the issue, to take on the challenges and to find effective solutions to the problems, inter-disciplinary and integrated knowledge and expertise is needed. The entire program is delivered in English by an international faculty. The formal program is delivered over 15 months in three sections. Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded the degree of Master of Science by the World Maritime University.
◇ Academic Cooperative Program between Colomble International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC), Sri Lanka and Dalian Maritime University (DMU)
The cooperation covers two parts:
☉ CINEC recruits local students in Colomble, conducts undergraduate education according to DMU standards, and awards the graduates DMU’s Degree Certificate. ☉ CINEC conducts training to present seafarers according to DMU standards, and awards the graduates DMU’s Graduation Certificate.
The cooperation is the first try that China exports its excellent maritime education resource. It is also a significant step in DMU’s process of becoming a maritime talents education center of Asia-Pacific region.
◇ Academic Cooperative Program between School of Law, Swansea University and Dalian Maritime University
The cooperation, under the model of “3+1+1”, covers two parts:☉ DMU students complete a 3-year undergraduate course according to DMU standards and a fourth year undergraduate study at Swansea, and will be awarded DMU’s Bachelor Degree.
☉ DMU students complete a one-year LLM program in Swansea, and then will be awarded the degree of Master in Laws by Swansea University. The program in Swansea University is delivered in English
◇ Undergraduate Educational Cooperation between University of Waterloo, Canada and Dalian Maritime University
This collaborative “2+2” model program is composed of a 2-year study in China and a 2-year study in Canada involving undergraduate students from Dalian Maritime University (DMU).The program aims to increase opportunities for Chinese students to experience Canadian higher education, enhance the ability of DMU graduates to compete in the national and international job market, as well as promote the international reputation of UM and DMU.
◇ Academic Cooperative Program between Maritime State University named after Adm. G.I. Nevelskoy, Russia (MSUGIN) and Dalian Maritime University (DMU)
The 5-year (2.5+2.5 Model) program covers three parts:☉ Students study the culture, history and the language of the other country abroad during the first 5 semesters.
☉ Students study the basic and specialized courses at alma mater from the sixth semester.
☉ Students write graduation thesis in both Chinese and Russian and will be awarded the Graduation Certificate of both DMU’s and MSUGIN’s.
◇ Academic Exchange Program between the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and Dalian Maritime University (DMU)
The program is organized by the University of Hong Kong, Dalian Maritime University and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The goal of this program is to establish friendship between DMU and HKU, to promote the development of Hong Kong shipping industry and to cultivate high-level maritime law professionals for Hong Kong.The program lasts for three years. Students study in the Law School of the other university and get the Graduation Certificate of the other university. DMU students are allowed to study only the program of Master of Common Laws in HKU.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will give financial aid to exchange students for their three years’ tuition and one year’s cost of living totaling 8,000,000 Hong Kong dollars. Students who receive the financial help will serve in the shipping industry in Hong Kong for no less than 12 months after graduation.
