School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)

School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) of Dalian Maritime University, founded in December 2000, developed from Department of Social Science. The SHSS has a group of outstanding scholars.

The SHSS at present has 60 faculty members, among whom 6 are full professors (including 3 doctoral advisors), 24 are associate professors and 11 are instructors. The teachers less than 45 age have all hold master degree or Combined Degrees. 15 members of the teaching staff hold a doctor degree or are doctor candidate. The teaching staff has solid strength, rich teaching experience and brilliant result on social science study. Since 2004, the teaching staff has undertaken beyond 30 research projects, including national projects, provincial projects, and municipal projects. has published 300 plus research papers and 30 plus books, including teaching material. Among these papers, many papers has been reprinted by New China Digest, Newspaper & Journal Articles Reprint Series by the People's University, Abstracts of university periodicals (Humanities), and Chinese Social Science Digest. And these papers produced certain social influence.

The SHSS has 1 Ph.D. programs (Developments of Marxism in China), 7 MA programs (Marxist Philosophy, Marxist Fundamental Principles, History of the Marxist Development, Developments of Marxism in China, Foreign Marxism, Ideological & Political Education, and Public Administration), 6 undergraduate majors (Public Administration, Public Utilities Management, Politics and Administration, Social Work, Chinese Language and Literature, and Philosophy). The current enrollment is 750, including 664 undergraduates and 96 master’s degree students. The SHSS has 6 departments (Public Administration, Public Utilities Management, Politics and Administration, Social Work, Chinese Language and Literature, and Philosophy), 3 institutes (Institute of Economics, Institute of Maozedong Thought, Institute of Dengxiaoping Theory and Three Represents, and Institute of ), and 3 centers (Center of Military Theory, Foreign Chinese Language Teaching Center, and Psychotherapy & Counseling Center).

The SHSS of Dalian Maritime University blessed with these favorable advantages looks to greater development in this new century. We will make its tenth anniversary the new starting line and continue to work hard to bring to a higher level the quality of its students, teaching staff, scholarship, teaching and research conditions, and social services, and to make contributions worthy of its stature to the noble endeavor to make Dalian Maritime University a world-class Maritime university and to the great revival of the Chinese nation.
